Volunteer Judges and Mentors
For the past 30 years, subject matter experts in the community and at College of DuPage have served as judge and mentor volunteers for ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics.  ACT-SO is a mentoring program for African American high school students that culminates in local and national academic competitions and scholarship awards.  The College of DuPage co-sponsors the program with the DuPage County Branch NAACP.  Mentors are experts in the community who work with one or more students on their projects for at least several months.

Qualifications:
Judges and mentors should either be professionals working in the field in which they volunteer or have degrees in the field. Judges attend the competition and use pre-established criteria to score student projects or performances. (In the Humanities, Sciences and Business categories, judges receive the students’ written materials 2 weeks before competition for pre-judging of that portion of the competition).
